HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR SKIN THIS SUMMER

Your skin is an investment, not an expense!

Now that summer is here, that investment should be doubled for a constant, flawless skin profile. We all have been preparing for summer during spring. We worked for the perfect summer body, we were so excited to get tanned and lie on the beach for hours! And now that we are doing all that, we slightly forgot to continue to treat and take care of our skin. Let’s see how we can restart that skincare routine and fall right back to that glowing skin.

First of all, we have to understand what happens during summer that can have an effect on your skin. It’s obvious that heat increases in the summer and it’s really unforgiving to your skin. Humidity, dust, dirt and pollution come along with this temperature leaving your skin dull, oily and blemished. If you have dry skin, it makes your skin rougher while oily skin gets oilier. Heat also can make more pores open and therefore clog them with oil and dirt. This traps bacteria and causes acne and blemishes. So, how can you get rid of these situations? Let’s discuss it below!

CHANGE YOUR FACE WASH

Now you have moved from spring to summer, so have your face. The facewash you used in spring or winter might not work well for you in summer. Different seasonal changes need different skincare products. If you have oily skin, you have to select a face wash that helps you remove excess oil while a non-foam cleanser is good for your dry skin. This is also a wise option if you have combined skin. Remember to wash your face to keep it nourished and refreshed! The summer heat makes our skin create more oil. When congestion and bacteria sit on the pores too long, it causes clogged pores resulting in breakouts! I usually like using a more gentle cleanser in the morning since your skin isn’t too dirty when sleeping. While it’s important to use a deeper cleanser yet normalize the pH balance of the skin at the end of the day and most especially after workouts! I recommend using a pH-balanced moisturizer that is plant based that calms and soothes the skin but also deep cleanses your pores like Bio Cleanse from Stellar Skincare. I also recommend grabbing a gentle toner for the t-zone areas to remove excess oil.

INCLUSION OF ANTIOXIDANTS

You have to choose a good antioxidant serum for the summer. It will keep your skin hydrated and protect you from environmental damage. A good serum will boost collagen production and hunt harmful radicals in order to prevent skin damage. Think of an excellent serum as Super foods to your skin, to help brighten, create new collagen production and help with restoring brilliance back into your skin using essential vitamins. This works for oily skin, dry skin and combined skin alike. I recommend Electrolyte Serum from Stellar Skincare since it’s packed with skin plumping ingredients (Saccharomyces Lysate Extract which improves absorption, decreases irritation, optimizes cellular oxygen consumption to help mitochondria produce the energy skin cells need to function properly. Another way to add antioxidants is your diet! Citrus fruits, turmeric, ginger,  green and leafy vegetables, nuts and green tea are full of them and will keep your skin younger-looking. Always approach wellness from the inside out.

KEEP IT HYDRATED WITH WATER & ELECTROLYTE SERUM

During summer, your skin needs to be moisturized and hydrated more than ever! Add citrus lemon, orange or watermelon to upgrade your water. Makes drinking water taste yummier! Also, apply two pumps of electrolyte serum right after you shower when your skin is damp. Makes the nutrients absorb deep in the dermis to hydrate, plump, and nourish your skin.

EXFOLIATE!

Want smoother skin? Exfoliate! It makes your skin brighter, removes dull skin and dead cells. You can exfoliate with home remedies like coffee grounds mixed with salt and oil and sugar mixed with honey. Most of us tend to exfoliate just our faces. Don’t do that! Don’t be lazy! Exfoliate your entire body for a more radiant look. Don’t over exfoliate though. It can make your skin bruised and get you rashes. If you have sensitive skin, go for a mild exfoliator.

IT’S IMPORTANT TO WEAR SUNSCREEN

Make sunscreen your best friend this summer! You have to select a sunscreen that has a broad UV spectrum (30-50 SPF that covers UVA & UVB rays). If you are planning to spend the whole day outside, use sunscreen every three hours. And again, keep in mind that you have to cover your neck, shoulders, hands and feet.

DON’T APPLY HEAVY MAKEUP

One should go easy on makeup during summer. Your skin should be able to breathe and for that, you have to wear minimal facial makeup. Heat during summer suppresses the ability of your skin to breathe. Therefore, avoid heavy makeup on the face. You can use a tinted moisturizer, organic kajal and tinted lip balm in summer. Give your skin some rest!
